Integrated course unit module: PERIOPERATIVE MEDICINE

Learning objectives


The course of Nursing in Surgery is part of the Teaching or Interactive Course of Surgery Clinic.
The course aims at enabling the student to know and understand the surgical care models, the essential elements of etiology, pathogenesis, symptomatology, diagnostics and care of the major pathologic situations of general surgical interest, in order to allow the student Ability to use the knowledge and understanding acquired in identifying the patient's problems related to the condition of a person suffering from general-pathology and planning an adequate care plan.
At the end of the course, the student should be able to carry out planned interventions in the field of surgery, using critical thinking and ethical decision-making, defining responsibilities, ensuring the application of diagnostic and therapeutic prescriptions, respecting principles Scientific, using the knowledge of anatomy, biology, physiology, general pathology and psychology already acquired.
It will also have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding about:
- Responsibility and the culture of Risk Management
- general mechanisms and modes of action of drugs, concept of absorption
- legal and ethical constraints in the administration of therapy
- the psychological and relational aspects of the relationship between a curator and a patient
- the meaning that the individual has for surgery, regardless of complexity
- the physiopathological phenomena that are the basis of events associated with surgery
- the most frequent complications that the surgical patient may encounter and the main risk factors for postoperative complications
- the recommendations for safety in the operating room and the protocols are monitoring the infections of the surgical site
- Taking the Primary Nurse patient into the care path

By applying the acquired knowledge and understanding, the student should be able, through synergy cooperation of all involved professionals, to:
- Identify the relief problems associated with surgical pathology
- Provide adequate care planning in accordance with the centrality of the patient
- contribute to the prevention of complications the patient suffering from surgical pathology may encounter
- increase patient compliance and empowerment

• Clinical risk in risk management and risk factors
• Drug and Drug Therapeutics, General Mechanisms and Methods of Drug Use, Absorption, Route of Administration, Side Effects, Tolerance and Addiction, Interaction, Synergistic Reaction, Major Pharmaceutical Preparations
• procurement and preservation of medicines
• nursing pharmacological assessment
• safe handling of antiblastic drugs, acute and late side effects, stevaso event management
• Radiant therapy, acute and late effects
• corticosteroid and anticoagulant drugs
• Administering narcotics, statutory holding and formatting reference
• blood and blood transfusion: legislative references, control and management of undesirable reactions
• analysis of collaborative and macroscopic diagnostic grouping problems
• Individualization of a teaching plan aimed at improving the patient's adaptation to therapy
• Essential components of a pharmaceutical prescription
• psychological and relational aspects of psycho-pharmacological therapy
• pediatric and senile pharmacotherapy
• patient restraint: reasons of recourse, direct and indirect negative effects, restrictions on use, alternatives to evidence-based restraint for practice
• Primary Nursing in Surgery
• organization of preoperative nursing: preparation for surgery (informed consent, assessment of health factors affecting the pre-operative, special situations), preoperative (educational, psychosocial and physical) nursing interventions, interventions Nursing in the immediate preoperative phase
• Operational section: structure and characteristics, expected professional figures and responsibilities, patient entry into the operating room
• Transferring the patient from the wake-up room to the hospital ward, assessment and care planning to prevent complications
• immediate, early and late post-operative complications
• Surgery wound: factors that may delay the healing process, major complications, surgeon surveillance site (Protocol "SICh-ER" Emilia-Romagna Region)
Post-operative pain as unpleasant sensory and emotional experience: painless ministerial hospital project, patient education and preoperative evaluation, assessment and measurement of pain through one-dimensional and multidimensional subjective methods and objective physiological and behavioral methods
