Learning objectives
The course aims to provide the students with the theoretical and practical principles related to the care process in patients undergoing surgery.

Course unit content
Identify and detect significant variables and objective / subjective pre-intra-post operators;
Identify diagnosis / problems / real / potential needs of the surgical patient;
Identify care goals in order to prevent or reduce the risks of postoperative complications;
Define a business plan and evaluate the pre-set objectives;
Evaluate and manage pain and injuries.

Course Presentation; Pre-operative period
Intraoperative period and brief notes on the operative block
Post-operative period
Safe operating room, business procedure of the safe path of the surgical patient
Pain (what it is, types of pain, prevention and care)
Anxiety: Types and Management
Surgery (treatment / care) and infections.

The slides of the course will be delivered to students at the end of the course
Teaching methods
Frontal lessons with the use of audiovisual aids and discussion in classroom with students.
Assessment methods and criteria
Oral examination according to examination schedule. Questions about the content of the course will be verified if the student has achieved the objective of knowledge and understanding of the content. Questions about prevention strategies and the preparation of a care plan will be verified if the student has achieved the goal of applying the acquired knowledge.
