the student will be able to (a) understand the mode of execution of the main diagnostic tests in the district, (b) perform maneuvers semeiology instrumental and (c) become aware of probematiche of the major eye surgery, and know to plan a program of assistance on the professional orthoptist to Assistant in Ophthalmology, regarding clinical cases dealt with.
The course also aims to enable the student to understand and
understand the essential elements of technique, radiation protection and
clinical indications for imaging to the study of the major diseases
vascular and central nervous system. The course aims
the purpose of allowing the student to use the knowledge and skills
understanding gained in identifying imaging techniques to
use as part of the major clinical problems.
At the end of the course the student will demonstrate knowledge and understanding about:

-directions of the various examinations for diagnostic imaging for the study of
various diseases

Course unit content
Discipline of Surgery - Cataract surgery: preoperative evaluation of the patient, introduction of techniques used for cataract extraction, the follow-up in the absence and presence of complications.
Glaucoma surgery: surgical indications, preoperative functional assessment, outline of surgical techniques used in the various types of glaucoma (ie, congenital, juvenile, adult, acute, refractory etc..), Follow-up of patients operated for trabeculectomy.
Corneal surgery: the penetrating keratoplasty (indications, preo postoperative evaluation with particular reference to the keratoconus patient, follow-up post-poperatorio), dell'ametropia myopic refractive surgery (indications, medico-legal aspects, outline of surgical techniques, follow-up).
Retinal surgery: the approach scleral buckling and vitrectomy (indications, risk / benefit ratio of each technique, orthotic complications of surgery for retinal detachment)
Strabismus surgery.
Discipline of semiotics - In the early lessons, the course aims through interactive tutorials to learn the principles of operation of the slit lamp and make the student able to learn the use of the tool in the examination of the anterior segment, both in terms physiological and pathological conditions.
The second part of the course is to make students know and understand the principles of operation and use of the main diagnostic tests in vitreo-retinal diseases that most commonly encountered in clinical practice. It also provides the basic elements for the interpretation of these methods.
The third part of the course includes lessons contact lenses, which deals with the study of anatomical and functional lacrimal apparatus and the main diagnostic tests used in clinical practice; discusses the various types and characteristics of contact lenses, principles of application and discusses the complications associated with its use.
Discipline of Diagnostic Imaging - In the first part of the course will describe the various modes of
imaging: conventional radiology, ultrasound, computed tomography, resonance
magnetic angiography. In the second part of the course
clinical applications will be discussed with particular reference to the semiotics of radiological
major vascular and central nervous system.
