Learning objectives

The course aims to provide students with the tools for addressing the classical issues or the most recent developments in micropaleontology through the knowledge of the basic elements that allow thereconstruction of the biostratigraphy in a chronological framework

Biostratigraphy, Stratigraphy, Chronostratigraphy and Geochronology, Biostratigraphy, introduction, biostratigraphic units, schemes, biochronological resolution, biostratigraphic correlations.Methods in biostratigraphy. Micropaleontology: Origin of life. Calcareous microfossils: Nannofossils, Foraminifera, and Ostracods. Siliceous microfossils: Diatoms, Radiolaria. Other microfossils: Acritarchs, Dinoflagellate cysts, Conodonts
