Course units and programme of study

The programme of study is the set of compulsory and elective course units that the student must take in order to graduate.
Submission of the programme of study for one's year of enrolment is compulsory and is necessary, above all, for registering for examinations and completing the teaching evaluation questionnaires.
All current students must submit their programme of study online via the Esse3 system.
The programme of study may differ depending on the academic year of enrolment ('cohort'); it may also provide for a choice between different study paths ('curriculum').
For a list of the course units that can be included in the programme of study, select the academic year of enrolment and, if available, the curriculum.

How the programme of study works

The list of course units in the programme of study represents the set of training activities that can be envisaged for each of the years of which the degree course consists and changes according to the year in which the student enrols.
Within the framework of the training activities 'at the student's choice', the Course Council, at the beginning of each academic year, announces the activities arranged, without prejudice to the student's possibility of autonomously choosing other activities, consistent with the training project, within the University of Parma.
The programme of study is drawn up online and each year the university indicates the time frame within which it can be submitted. Several options are offered to achieve the 12 ECTS credits. The course units included in the programme of study contribute to the determination of the average.
The student may request recognition of ECTS credits for free participation activities, i.e. activities carried out in the sporting, cultural or social sphere for a cumulative maximum of 6 ECTS (http://www.unipr.it/didattica/info-amministrative/crediti-attivita-spor…).

Compulsory training on safety in the workplace

The study course in Earth Sciences is one of the degree courses for which there is an obligation to conduct a course on safety in the workplace. All students will be able to follow the compulsory training modules on safety in the workplace by following the instructions at the following link: https://scvsa.unipr.it/it/corso-di-sicurezza.

Credits for free participation activities

The University recognises, for students on courses of study who request it, university credits for free participation activities, i.e. activities carried out in the SPORTS, CULTURAL and SOCIAL spheres that involve the student in the operational context in which the activities are carried out.

Educational Excursions

Practical field activities are a central and characterising element in the training of future geologists.

First-cycle and Second-cycle degree courses in Earth Sciences (L 34) and Applied Earth Sciences for Environmental Sustainability (LM 74) place great emphasis on these activities and organise numerous day and multi-day excursions each year as part of their coursework, in Italy and abroad

Safety in the field

Field teaching is a fundamental element in the training of future geologists. The Department of Chemistry, Life Sciences and Environmental Sustainability organises numerous excursions for the First-cycle and Second-cycle Degree Courses in Earth Sciences as part of the teaching programmes offered in the various course years.

Activities in the field involve specific risks that must be known in order to avoid their consequences. Students participating in such activities are therefore required to read and observe the rules of conduct and information on this page.

The Professors/Instructors, the Unified Board of Geological Sciences and the Unified Board of Applied Earth Sciences for Environmental Sustainability decline all responsibility in the event of damage to persons or property due to failure to comply with the rules listed in this document

(print out the declaration of acknowledgement at the end of the document "Equipment and rules of conduct for educational activities in the field" , sign it and hand it over to the accompanying instructor on departure for the excursion).
