Learning objectives

The Student will acquire specific knowledge in the field of planning and design of transportation infrastructure and services with emphasis on road transport. Will be treated the technical and economic aspects that underlie the processes of investment in road infrastructure and intermodal transport that will allow it to operate or deal with related technical government or the management company.

Prerequisites

None for the students of the Master of Science in Civil Engineering. Basci concept of highways engineering.

Course unit content

Fundamentals of transporation engineering with regard to the works and services for the mobility of people and goods. Design of infrastructural systems and economical evaluation of projects.

Perception of the road, signs and markings;
Characteristics of the vehicle;
Classification of roads (Italian and european regulations);
Reference standard;
Road traffic;
Estimated demand for mobility;
Capacity of a road (method HCM);
Rigid road pavements (design, construction and maintenance);
Technical regulation on materials for road pavements;
Hydraulic and road drainage;
The design of parking areas;
Efficiency of a parking;
Parking structures;
Economic evaluation of projects (cost-benefit and multi-criteria analysis);
Freight transportation, intermodal and handling systems;
Winter maintenance of roads;
Road safety barriers;
Devices for control of the guide;
Bridges and viaducts;
Acceptance tests of piles and bridges;
Consolidation of soils in large areas.

The course is divided into a series of lessons using the frontal projection of powerpoint presentations, technical visits and exercises.
