Learning objectives
The student, at the end of the second year of the course, must be able to relate to the patient and with his family, identify the needs that are the basis of physiological and pathological processes, meet the same preparing an individualized care plan based on scientific evidence, ensuring the correct application of diagnostic and therapeutic services, collaborating with the figures of the team caring and using, if necessary, the figures support.

Course unit content
The training aims to make the student able to:
welcome and orient the patient and his family between practice settings, assuming attitudes and behaviors that favor the establishment of a relationship of trust;
communicate with the patient and her family by adopting methods of communication interpersonal verbal and nonverbal facilitating using strategies and techniques that foster communication;
participate in the support of people in the terminal stages of life, through the presence, listening and guarantee comfort and privacy;
run the nursing assessment, recording documentation significant data for the estimation of care needs in relation to specific reference models;
identify the type of reaction of the patient and family members to the disease, the treatment and hospitalization;
assess the needs of information and education of the patient and his family;
acquire skills of diagnostic reasoning, with assumptions about the problems of nursing expertise, including through the use of a system of accredited nursing diagnoses and collaborative problems and on the basis of information obtained from appropriate measurement scales, relating them to the signs and symptoms observed, lifestyle , the ability to self-care and the perceived quality of life;
develop the ability to plan nursing care, through the definition of results, objectives and priorities for action, based on the problems identified, and in the context of organizational needs and optimal utilization of resources;
apply the care plan;
educate the person to adopt healthy lifestyle habits and change lifestyles at risk;
help the person to improve adherence to prescribed treatments and its capacity for self-care in the management of therapies and diagnostic tests;
develop the ability to work in a complex organizational environment, through the proper use of the tools of documentation and respect the roles and functions of the various professions involved in the processes of care and assistance;
perform properly and effectively its own activities of nursing, adapting them to be assisted in relation to the degree of autonomy / dependence, different pathologies, in different operational areas in support: model of perception and health management, business model and exercise , nutritional-metabolic pattern, pattern of elimination.

Teaching methods
The training activities of the second year (20 CFU) is realized in the offices of general and specialized medicine of the University Hospital of Parma, the Company Local Health Unit of Parma and at private organizations affiliated with the University of Parma.
There are two training experiences in different operating units: one in the medical area (280 hours) and in a surgical area (280 hours), alongside a clinical tutor.
Assessment methods and criteria
You are not allowed to frequency of training if you do not have obtained the certificates of frequency of disciplinary modules: Nursing in surgery and nursing in medicine.
There has also admitted to the frequency of the training if you do not have to pass the exams: pathophysiology and bioethics and ethics.
For each internship experience is at least one ongoing formative assessment and a final assessment certification service.
The evaluation of each training experience is made by the clinical tutor who has been entrusted with the student.
The positive evaluation of two training experiences, allows the student to register for the internship two years in the dates of appeal provided for in the exam timetable.
The exam consists of the discussion of a case study and evaluation of skills required and check list procedures learned in the laboratory.
