Learning objectives

Provide a high-level overview of the design of a product stimulating critical analysis of mechanical devices. Get used to team work. Develop the ability to design, write and present technical reports.

Course unit content

Interpret a product as a system presenting the features and methods of the various stages of its development. Present advanced topics of machine design.

Full programme

Stages of product design. Role of team work. Creativity and product innovation. Patents and intellectual property protection. Study of a mechanical device fixed (small reciprocating compressor) and development of a technical report. Design of a mechanical display device (hydraulic lift) starting from market analysis and functional requirements. Pressure vessel design.
