Learning objectives

To provide the cultural basis in order to understand the significance of palliative care in terminally ill patients with the aim of promoting the best possible quality of life for both the patients and caregivers respecting the value of life.

Course unit content

the Law n 38/2010
The principles of the law.
The new rules on the access to palliative care and the therapy of pain.
The pain: different types of pain, the impact on the quality of life and the possible therapies.
The pain in children: the problem and the possible therapeutic approach.
The pain in the elderly: the painful syndromes in the frail elderly.
The pain in neoplastic patients and the therapeutic use of drugs. The hospital without pain.
