Advising and guidance

Advising and guidance refer to all activities aimed at enabling the prospective student to plan and manage their learning in a way that is consistent with their personal life goals and makes full use of their individual skills and interests to achieve personal fulfilment.
Depending on the stage of the university process at which these activities are carried out, a distinction is made between:

advising: carried out before the choice of course of study, it is aimed at prospective students and offers support in identifying the course to be undertaken on the basis of individual interests, expectations and aptitudes. In this phase, the various possible scenarios are presented to the prospective student and the alternatives of the university path are illustrated;

guidance: carried out during the university career, it is aimed at enrolled students and is designed to guide them through the courses of study already undertaken, allowing them to establish a better interaction with the structures and the university context;

career guidance: carried out close to or after graduation, is aimed at graduates or graduating students and is designed to facilitate their introduction into the working environment.

Advising

Advising plays a decisive role in the complex and articulated process of higher education of the new generations. The choice of a university course is in fact a very delicate moment in the life of a student, who has to make an informed choice in order to build his or her own life project; shortcomings in incoming guidance contribute to an increase in the number of drop-outs from studies, as well as slowing down student careers by disproportionately increasing the time needed to obtain a degree.
The main activities of the Academic and career guidance Division are carried out in support of and in close collaboration with the teachers responsible for orientation in the Department and range from the organisation of and participation in orientation meetings held at secondary schools to the organisation of educational visits to the Department, aimed at helping students in their final years of secondary school to choose a course of study, from participation in national orientation fairs, organised in various locations throughout Italy, to collaboration in the organisation of the ""Studying in Parma"" open days held annually at the University in the spring, as well as the ""From High school to University"" info days held annually in the summer, coinciding with the opening of enrolment procedures.
Each year, in May, the Department organises a presentation to CLEM students of the various Second-cycle degrees offered by the SEA Department; during this event, the ADA President presents the degree course in detail and answers questions from First-cycle degree students directly in the classroom.
Videos and slides of the ADA course presentation at the Second-cycle Degree Open Day remain on the ADA website for all prospective students.

Guidance and tutoring

The service is intended to support the proper integration of students in the course of study through, in particular, specific tutoring activities aimed at students enrolled in the first year of the course, as well as to promote effective career advancement by students through, in particular, assistance in the compilation of individual programmes of study, ongoing orientation activities, designed to encourage students to choose the course of study that best suits their characteristics, as well as remedial activities for students in difficulty.
At the same time as enhancing the tools for assessing students' incoming skills, especially for those with a high drop-out rate, the University provides remedial teaching activities and ensures adequate tutoring services throughout the university course, calibrated taking into account the evaluation mechanisms of the courses of study, in order to pursue the result of improving the quality of the same, providing tutors for each individual course of study.
Ongoing orientation and tutoring activities, therefore, take on particular importance in view of the growing importance of the improvement and success, from an educational point of view, of regularly enrolled students, an aspect that cannot, however, disregard the initial level of basic skills of incoming students, which contributes significantly to the inadequate performance of enrolled students. In order to improve specific performance, the University of Parma has developed a series of actions aimed at integrating and strengthening the core subject areas, as well as implementing integrative preparatory and preparatory courses for examinations.
In order to carry out tutoring activities for students, the Department of Economics and Business Administration has two separate tutoring positions: (i) Tutoring (TU); (ii) Supplementary, preparatory and remedial teaching activities (DI).
With regard to Tutoring activities (TU), the Department Council appoints people to support the students of the Department's Degree Courses (L-18 ex 270/04 and previous orders).
The page dedicated to tutoring activities on the website of the Department is: https://sea.unipr.it/it/tutor-economia The ongoing orientation and tutoring activities are carried out by all the teachers of the course of study in ""Administration and Business Management"" where they are directly involved as academic tutors in the context of internships in accounting firms or internships in companies.
There is also a 'student class representative', two for each year of the course of study. These students, whose contact details are available to teachers and students, act as:
- liaison between students and teachers and between students themselves, - facilitation of faster and more usable circulation of information - liaison and coordination of requests made on behalf of the whole class - dissemination of notices by teachers - dissemination of information in relation to opportunities for traineeships and internships in companies. These students are also part of the Review Group
