Integrated course unit module: DIAGNOSIS TESTS APPLIED TO SPORTS

Learning objectives


At the end of the course, the student will understand the meaning of the results of main laboratory tests and will be able to apply this information in the characterization of problems related to physical activity

Course unit content


Lessons will concern the laboratory tests most commonly performed in subjects performing physical activity. Focus will be given to tissue damage.

- Introductory remarks: how an athlete should read laboratory data
– CBC, Hemoglobin. PCV, White cells.
- Hemostasis (hints)
- Acute phase proteins, ESR
- Electrolytes: sodium, potassium (hints)
- Glucose, fat and nitrogen metabolism
- Hints on organ profiles

Interactive lectures. The slides shown during the lectures will be available on the Elly platform.

Assessment methods and criteria


The achievement of the objectives will be assessed through a written examination, together with the other disciplines included in the Course, and will be eventually integrated with a colloqium, if requested by the student.
