Learning objectives

The Course of Respitarory and Cardiovascular Diseases is a part of the Integrated Course of Interdisciplinary Sciences. The course aims to enable the students to know the most frequent respiratory and cardiovascular diseases and to define their clinical features. We will give particular attention to technical aspects of chest imaging and their most common indications.

Course unit content

Imaging plays a central role in chest medicine. The course will provide a complete description of the technical aspects of all the radiographic imaging, a general survey of the available techniques and some of the most common indications for their choice. The course will identify the most frequent pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases and will define their clinical features. In particular we will examine Respirarory and Cardiovascular Anatomy and Physiology, Acute and Chronic Airway Diseases (Asthma,COPD, Emphysema), Interstitial Lung Disease, Infections Diseases of the Lungs, Pulmonary Embolism, Lung Cancer, Disorders of the Pleura, Coronary Artery Disease, Enlarged Heart (Cardiomegaly), Heart Attack, Heart Rhythm Disorders, Heart Valve Disease, Congenital Heart Disease, Heart Muscle Disease (Cardiomyopathy), Dilated Cardiomyopathy, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, Restrictive Cardiomyopathy, Pericarditis.

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons. During the lessons, we will discuss issues related to Respiratory and Cardiovascular Diseases and related techniques of chest imaging.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment of the achievement of courses' objectives will include in-course multiple choice tests. At the oral examination will be determined whether the student has achieved the goal of knowledge and understanding of the content and if it is able to apply the knowledge gained.
