The main functions and related skills of the professional figure formed by the course of study can be summarized in three main areas:

1. Preliminary, general design and technical-economic evaluation of projects in the construction, urban and territorial sectors, management and accounting of works, real estate administrative services, energy certification of buildings, testing and coordination of safety in all the phases involved in construction activities ,

2. The appraisal, expert activities such as consultancy relating to the estimate of the market value of properties, technical-regulatory assistance (both in the private sector and in companies and companies awarded contracts public or private), activities related to judicial and extrajudicial disputes.

3. Further functions of this professional figure are inherent to the geometric survey and graphic rendering of buildings, the tracing of building works in general and infrastructural ones (road and rail tracks, canalizations, etc.). Furthermore, the geomatics and cadastral activities relating to the updating, splitting and merging of real estate units and building works in general are also within the scope of its competences.

Skills associated with the function:

The professional skills will mainly be those related to the activities of consultant for the preliminary design and control of the execution of building and infrastructural works and urban planning works, design of small-scale works, construction management, control and management of construction site safety, management and evaluation of real estate assets, topographic surveys at various scales and cadastral activities in general.

The employment opportunities will be mainly those of the free profession, subject to registration in the surveyors' college for which the passing of the professional qualification exam is required according to current legislation, Law no. 75/1985, Presidential Decree n. 328/2001. Further professional opportunities include employment in public and private companies operating in the construction, infrastructural, urban and territorial sectors such as construction companies, private companies with offices for the management and development of real estate assets, municipalities, public and private bodies for the management and control of environmental and territorial resources. Finally, other employment opportunities could be those of employment in professional firms operating in the construction, infrastructure and territory sectors.

Graduates must have achieved effective communication skills, both in written and oral form, so as to be able to share and disclose their choices in the context of their work with clarity, completeness of information and full comprehensibility. These skills must allow you to communicate with precision, both with specialists and with interlocutors with different cultural backgrounds or with a lower education level, in order to convey a full awareness of your own ideas and technical-economic choices. Communication skills are a fundamental and essential aspect for the graduate surveyor, who will often find himself interacting with professionals with different cultural backgrounds in his work.

Graduates must be able to draw up reports in the various areas in which they will operate and must be able to correctly interpret technical standards that may also involve other sectors, without disregarding aspects relating to ethics and professional ethics. For the development of communication skills, the setting of the teaching activities of the course includes group experiences related to the workshops and the drafting of projects. Students will be encouraged to communicate, motivate and enhance, both within the working group and towards other groups and towards teachers, the design choices or the merit assessments. The communication skills achieved will be assessed through periodic checks of the papers and projects, through written and oral exams. To facilitate communication in English, texts and documents in foreign languages ​​will be used, in order to create the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively both nationally and internationally.

Communication skills are a fundamental and indispensable aspect for a graduate technician in the civil, building, infrastructure and land use sectors, who will often find himself/herself interacting with professionals from different cultural backgrounds in his/her work.
