Obiettivi formativi

The course aims to enhance the students knowledge and understanding on raw materials and sustainability for energy transition.
To be able of understanding the strategy behind the definition of raw materials, their origin and usage.
The course aims to improve the communication and learning skills of the students on the field of raw materials and related problems and advantages.

Prerequisiti

Basic (first degree) knowledge of chemistry, mineralogy, petrography, geochemistry.

Programma esteso

1) Raw material for Energy transition: Outline of the course, Introduction to material characterization, critical raw material reports
2)Mineralization for green economy: Mineralization and everyday life, Ore minerals and where to find them (Montanini)
3) Urban mining and circular economy: Basic concepts of urban mining, Industrial materials and their use, Waste as a resource (Mantovani)
4) Critical raw materials:EU, USA and Canada reports, Why a raw material became critical,Example of CRM (Nazzareni)
5) Charaterization of mineralized and antropic material: team work in case studies

Modalità verifica apprendimento

Group and/or individual power point presentation on raw materials for energy transition. The evaluation criteria will be the following:

- knowledge of the fundamental of raw materials definition and usage for sustainability development;
- knowledge and ability to identify and to characterize the definition and usage of raw materials based on literature data or case study presented during the course units;
- knowledge and ability to integrate different and appropriate methodologies for raw materials prospection and usage;
- ability to communicate and present results.
