Learning objectives

The main objective of the course is to provide students with the knowledge on the scientific literature on the fundamental topics related to health and physical activity
1. Knowledge and understanding.
At the end of the course the student knows the methodology of training and exercise prescription, in terms of type, volume, intensity, duration, frequency, for individuals under normal or clinical condition.
2. Applying knowledge and understanding.
At the end of the course the student knows the risks and benefits of exercise prescription for individuals under several clinical conditions, like diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, and for age-related declines (sarcopenia and osteopenia).
3. Making judgements.
At the end of the course the student is able to determine the appropriate method, quantity and type of exercise for individuals under normal or clinical conditions
4. Communication skills.
At the end of the course the student is able to manage the specific terminology for exercise prescription and the scientific terminology.
5. Learning skills.
At the end of the course the student is able to read, understand, and synthesize a scientific article.

Course unit content

The course aims to introduce the theoretical and methodological principles of physical activity, exercise and sport for individuals under normal or clinical condition.
The didactic program focuses on:
Adaptive physical activity
Adaptive physical education
Adaptive physical exercise
Exercise and chronic disease
Volume and intensity of physical activity
Sport for health
Sedentary behavior
Scientific literature

Full programme

Adapted physical and sporting activity in subjects affected by neurodegenerative disease (Alzhiemer),
Sports and ALS;
Adapted sport in the cancer patient;
Functional assessment of strength and endurance and risk of death
Sport for adults and elderly (sport for health)

Teaching methods

Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards. Supporting material will be available on the specific, student-reserved platform (Elly).

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination.
