Learning objectives


The course aims to provide students with scientific interpretative keys, based on empirical research data, to know and understand Restorative Justice. At the end of the classes, students are expected to be able to know the origins of restorative justice and its declinations (knowledge and understanding); to recognize the different approaches and tools of restorative justice, analyzing them in their historical-philosophical evolution (ability to apply knowledge and understanding - communication skills); finally, to compare the practices of restorative justice to assess their scope (autonomy of judgment).

Course unit content


The classes will present the Restorative Justice 'paradigm' in its various applications, from the theoretical and methodological approaches to explain its tools.
A part of the lessons will be dedicated to the analysis of the recent organic discipline introduced with the so-called reform Cartabia. Thanks to the co-teaching mode, a part of the classes will be dedicated to a laboratory. Thanks to the contribution of the mediator teacher, the class will do experience of restorative justice simulations in various contexts such as prison, schools, organizations, in which the students will put into practice learning.

Teaching methods


After a first, minimal, part of face to face lectures, experiential workshops, simulations, group work with the facilitation of an expert criminal mediator are planned.
