Integrated course unit module: HEARING AIDS IV

Learning objectives

The Bachelor of Technical Sciences Applied Medical is part of the integrated course of Audio-prothesis IV and aims to enable the student to know and understand the physics beneath the acoustic propagation and dynamics or open and reverberate condition, as well as knowledge of environmental acoustic and microphone feature and functions. At the end of the course, the student will be able to choose and correctly adjust a hearing aid by identifying an appropriate amplification model.

Course unit content

The course will focus on acoustic propagation . Students will acquire competences in applied physics of open and closed space with particular emphasis on speech comprehension. During the course the models and characteristics of the hearing aids, the acoustic parameters, the characteristics and construction techniques of custom-made earphones will be illustrated. Basic and advanced assistance techniques and clinical case studies will be illustrated.

Teaching methods

Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. Supporting material will be available on the specific, student-reserved platform (Elly) and will include slide presentations, audio-video aids or video-recording of the lectures.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination. The student must demonstrate that they have acquired competence on acoustic propagation in open and closed space, the characterstics of soundproofing materials, the reverberation the speech comprehension and the microphone function. The student must demonstrate that they are able to choose and adjust a hearing aid.

In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:
remote oral questions, through the Teams platform (guide http://selma.unipr.it/).
