Learning objectives

- Knowledge and understanding: critically review the information reported in the safety data sheet.
- Developing the ability to understand what a risk assessment is and how to draw it up for chemicals, carcinogens and mutagens.
- Applying knowledge and understanding: developing environmental monitoring based on the results of risk assessment and conducting data analysis.
- Autonomy of judgment: students will need to develop autonomy in the analysis of critical issues about occupational exposure to chemicals.
- Communication skills: students must acquire the formal language, which enables to communicate properly with colleagues, companies and institutions.
- Learning skills: students will be encouraged to understand and interpret current and future regulations.

- REACH and CLP regulations and updates
- Evaluation and management of the chemical risk
- Chemicals Regulatory framework
- Risks, preventive measures, and protection in relation to the use and exposure to chemicals.
- Assessment of occupational exposure to chemical agents through environmental monitoring.

Full programme

Recalling legislation relating to chemical agents relevant for the exercise of the profession of the Specialists in Environment and Workplace Prevention (REACH and CLP regulations and updates, Directive (UE) 2022/431 and European Standard UNI EN 689:2019).
To analyse the information reported in the safety data sheet using European databases.
To produce a risk assessment document for chemicals, carcinogens and mutagens. Simulations using mathematical algorithms.
To develop an environmental monitoring based on the European Standard UNI EN 689:2019 and simulate a real case.

Teaching methods

Besides the lectures that cover the basic themes, there will also be simulations held. The teacher will be at the student's disposal for any clarification or explanation regarding the topics addressed during the course.

Assessment methods and criteria

Application of knowledge and understanding: the student will present and discuss a practical case regarding the topics covered. The exam’s success depends on whether students can correctly align themselves with the proposed case and the topics discussed, providing ideas for discussion independently.
