Integrated course unit module: PHYSICAL RISKS AT WORK

Learning objectives

The module of Non-Ionizing Radiations is part of the Integrated Course of Physical Risks in the Life and Work Environment.
The objective of the Module is to teach the students how to make measurements of noise and vibrations, having clear both the technical aspects of measurements and instrumentation, and legal aspects for the protection of population and workers.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of radiation physics.

Course unit content

The first part of the Module of Non-Ionizing Radiations is dedicated to a brief review of the nature of elastic mechanical waves and electromagnetic waves, and the main physical quantities used to describe them.
Following, instrumentation and regulation for measurements of vibrations and noise are illustrated.
Practical demonstrations of the use of measuring instrumentation will be given to the students.

Teaching methods

During classroom lectures, a brief review on the physical nature of waves and the main quantities involved will be given. Instrumets and regulation for measurements of vibrations and noise will be illustrated and commented. Practical demonstrations of the use of measuring intruments will be given.

Assessment methods and criteria

The achievement of the objectives of the module will be assessed through a 1 hour written exam, mainly consisting in open questions on the topics of the Module of Non-ionizing Radiations, including theoretical principles, regulations and instrumentation. This will allow to ascertain the knowledge and the understanding of regulations concerning noise and vibrations, the physical quantities involved, and measurements techniques and instrumentation.
Students with disabilities, SLD, BSE must first contact Centro Accoglienza ed Inclusione (CAI) (https://cai.unipr.it/) for support.
