Carcinoma cavo orale The course aims to enable students to know and understand the discipline, also in order to allow students to use these knowledge and understanding in identifying the patient's problems related to the condition of a person suffering from a disease and to prepare an appropriate care plan

Full programme

The course contents will be:

anatomy(bones, muscles, nerves, teeth);

overall surgical principles;

wound healing, hypertrophic scars and keloids;

asepsis, disinfection and sterilization (chemical and physical devices);

infections: overall aspects;

infective pathology: abscesses, phlegmons, empyema, osteitis;

antibiotic therapy; hyperbaric therapy;


surgical instruments;

suturing techniques; local anaesthesia;

complications of anaesthesia;


trigeminal pain;

dental extractions: permanent and deciduous teeth;

complications in teeth removal;

soft tissue traumatology;

dental fractures;

Dental repositioning;

precancerous lesions;

needle biopsies;

incisional and excisional biopsies;

odontogenic and non-odontogenic cysts of the jaws and soft tissues and their surgical treatment;

pseudocysts;

mucoperiosteal flaps;

apicectomy, odontogenic and non-odontogenic lesions of the jaws;

dysodontiasis and impacted teeth;

germectomy;

soft tissue surgery: fibromas, papillomas etc.;

peripheral and central maxillary gigantocellular granulomas;

pathology and surgical treatment of maxillary sinus diseases;

pathology and surgical treatment of the TMJ.

Teaching methods

Class lessons: the program themes will be discussed with the aid of slides. The proposed topics will be the subject of collective discussion and study on the basis of ideas and any questions raised during the lessons themselves.

The achievement of the goals of the course is verified by an oral exam.
Answering questions about the contents of the course, the student will demonstrate whether he/she has achieved the goals of knowledge and understanding of the contents.
