Integrated course unit module: GENERAL PATHOPHYSIOLOGY AND EYE DISEASES

Learning objectives

The goal of this course is the achievement of good knowledge of the main clinical practices for the management of the ocular patient. The knowledge of the principles of the most common diagnostic tools is also requested.

Course unit content

Eyelids: principles of anatomy and related pathologies-lagophthalmos, ptosis, entropion, ectropion, blefaritis.
The lacrimal drainage system: anatomy and related diseases. Cornea: principles of anatomy and related pathologies. Uveitis: classifications and clinical presentation.
Cataract: definition, pathogenesis and related treatment. ocular ecoghraphy: principles and related aspects in the more frequent ocular diseases. Primary open angle glaucoma and acute angle closure glaucoma. Choroidal Melanoma. The most common topic drugs and ther local and systemic effects.

Teaching methods

Oral lesson and practical applications of the most common clinical tests for routine physiopathological evaluation. This in order to simulate the assistance to the ophthalmologist during the examination of the patients.

Assessment methods and criteria

Written or spoken testing. In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:
