Learning objectives
The course aims to enable the student to learn and understand through lectures and interactive practices, the principles of operation and use of the main diagnostic tests. It also provides the basic elements for the interpretation of these methods in order to gain the ability to use the knowledge and understanding learned in carrying out these methods on their own.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The student at the end of the course, using the knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology and psychology previously acquired, must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of optics applied to eye care.
The student also applying the knowledge and understanding acquired, shall be able, even collaborating with other professionals, to be able to conduct tests on their own.
Prerequisites
Examination of "ocular motility, binocular vision and pathophysiological bases of optics"
Course unit content
The course aims to deepen the principles of ocular refraction on the following topics:
- Standardization of the measures
- Optical aberrations of the visual system
- Principles of correction of refractive defects
- Calculation principles of artificial lens
- Optical instruments in ophthalmology

Teaching methods
The course will be held through lectures to Students either in the classroom (“in presenza”) or in synchronous-streaming (“in telepresenza”) on the Teams platform. Therefore, the opportunity of Student/Teacher interaction will be preserved both face to face and remotely, by the simultaneous use of the Teams platform. Lectures may be supported by slide presentations, which will be available to students on the Elly platform (https://elly.medicina.unipr.it).
