Learning objectives

At the end of the course students should have:
- acquired the capability to evaluate the potential risk of a chemical process carried out an a small scale (grams) and to be able to organize the working place in a safe manner
- acquired le knowledge on the reference lows listed in the program.

Prerequisites

good qualification in chemistry. All participants should have complied with the education on safety in agreement with the D. Lgs.81/08.

Course unit content

Recall on classification, labeling and packaging (CLP) of chemicals, inflammability, extinguishers, incompatible chemicals, handling of peroxide-forming compounds and solvents. Reactions carried out at height temperature and pressure. Reagents cupboard management and organization. Outlines of toxicology. General criteria for waste management, decontamination. Critical review of the chemistry topics of D. Lgs. 152/06, D. Lgs. 81/08, D.Lgs.105/15.Operative models for chemical risk assessment.

Full programme

The course is organized in two strictly connected parts; the first part is propedeutical for the second part.
First part: refer to the classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) of chemicals, flammable limits fire triangle, extinguishers, explosive atmospheres, exposure limits (TLV, TLV-TWA, TLV-STEL, TLV-C), general criteria for the incompatibility of chemicals, management of peroxide-forming solvents, peroxide tests, peroxide reduction. Waste management, decontamination procedures.
Second part: D. Lgs. 81/08, part IX with annex; D.Lgs. 152/06: parts III and V with annex; D. Lgs. 105/15 (Seveso III).
