Learning objectives
Thanks to the course the student can develop the empirical and social research of relational sociology. This viewpoint is 'differential', that is it highlights what makes a difference in building family relations in one way or another. The student can improve his way of analysing the present situation, its challenge to current public policies and the proposals of new (Dublin Area 1)
In second part of the course the student will improve his managing skills referring to politcal contents. He/she will learn to creat network between public and private subjects. (Dublin (Area 2)
At the end of the course the student will be able to act an automonous judge about difficult contest or decision making. (Dublin Area 3 and 4)
Course unit content
In the first part of the course it would be faced a critical perspective on the current approaches to family policies: the New Citizenship of the Family.
What are the principles that currently inspire family policy? Crises and new directions; The models of family policy inherited from the 20 th century: their characteristics and results; How to redefine family policy? The answer: Prospects of a new relational model.
The second part regards the modern society's ambivalent attitude towards the family: the family is a social subject requiring its own citizenship; New social policies: choosing the family as a basis for a new model for quality of life
The third part of te course tries to answer what it means today to say that the family is a social subject; Towards a society that promotes "family welfare"?; The ambivalence of the present social policies: difficulties and promises of a new social subjectivity of the family.

Teaching methods
During the course the teacher will propose case study and exercise to improve managing skills.
Students will also present a a project to propose welfare innovative welfare solution in a community meaning.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course will be tested trough an oral exam which consider:
- A dissertation about the final welfare project;
- A discussion guided by these sort of question for example: “ Which is your contribution for a welfare policy?; “ Which are the main principles of good welfare practices.
The oral exam will be good if yhe student can use contents in order to have a autonomous opinion or an abstraction skill.
The exam will be not sufficient if the student will not be able to move throughout the contents faced during the course.
Other information
Students will read and analyse some novel. They will meet workers from different secotors.
It is possible to have a trip to Barbiana.
