Learning objectives

The course aims at providing the basis for the comprehension and use of automatic systems. It is composed by two modules: the first one analyzes the interfacing problems between control units and sensors, while the second one focuses on the supervisor theory. The course also comprises laboratory activities concerning the use of PLCs.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam is subdivided into two parts:
1) a 3 hours written test (maximum score 32/30).
The written test concerns the solution of exercises regarding the proposed sensors and the Supervisor Theory (maximum score 18/30). The student must also answer to some theoretical questions concerning the same topics (maximum score 14/30);
2) Lab project on PLC. The project is conceived so as to be completed in a few working days (less than 1 week) and requires the implementation of a simple PLC control (maximum score 32/30).

The exam is passed by obtaining in both the two parts at least a score of 18/30.

The final score is attributed as a weighted mean value between the scores acquired in the two tests: a weight of 70% is attributed to the first test.

The "Laude" grade is assigned if the final score is higher than 30/30.
