Integrated course unit module: HEARING AIDS V

Learning objectives

The form of Audiology V is part of the Integrated Course of Hearing V and has the objective of allowing the student to know and to understand the essential elements of the Plant in Cochlear 'field of auditory rehabilitation of sensorineural hearing loss severe / profound or total bilaterally.The student must acquire the ability to use knowledge and understanding in order to identify the indications and contraindications audiological, to interpret the process of selection of patients candidates to the Plant and the relative path verification / adjustment electrophysiological and rehabilitation perceptual speech therapy.

Having supported the Integrated Course of Hearing IV

Course unit content

The teaching of Audiology V provides as main topic the Cochlear Implant. It first describes the system, its components and its operation; then analyzes the indications, contraindications, and the selection procedure for patients candidates to the CI; explains some hints to surgical technique; treat, then, the procedures adjustment electrophysiological; the lessons end with elements of speech therapy rehabilitation of patients with cochlear implant.

Teaching methods

The lessons require oral presentation in video-projection of the contents with the help of filmed documentation of specific audiological and clinical aspects. The last minutes of class are reserved for questions of clarification from the students. It provides for the discussion of clinical cases emblematic.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment of learning and knowledge takes place during the appeals provided for by the teaching calendar, by oral, in the presence of the Committee of Professors of the Integrated Course of Hearing V. The student must be able to demonstrate knowledge on the Cochlear Implant , audiological indications to the CI, the process of selection of candidates and patients about their hearing results.
