Learning objectives

Hearing V aims to enable the student to know and understand the essential elements of the etiology, pathogenesis, symptomatology of the main non-inflammatory disease of the hearing system. In particular, the student must acquire the ability to use knowledge and understanding in the use of different audiometric methods in order to provide a correct diagnostic instruments. The course also aims to enable the student to know and to understand the essential elements of the Plant cochlear part of the auditory rehabilitation of sensorineural hearing loss severe / profound or total bilaterali.Lo student must acquire the ability to use knowledge and understanding in order to identify the indications and contraindications audiological, to interpret the process of selection of patients candidates to the Plant and the route verification / adjustment electrophysiological and rehabilitation perceptual-logopedica.Il course, finally, has the objective to allow the student to know and understand the essential elements of hearing aid, the in-situ measurements and other specific aspects, such as compression, directionality and noise management. The student must acquire the ability to use knowledge and understanding in the use of different methods Audioprosthesis in order to provide a proper auditory rehabilitation.

Course unit content

The Course of Otolaryngology III aims to address the most important issues in the field of otological diseases not inflammatory. The topics are addressed to the basic elements of etiology, pathogenesis, symptomatology,, audiological diagnosis instrumental, with hints of medical and surgical therapy. In particular, they are treated for the following diseases: otosclerosis, Meniere's disease, Presbycusis, deafness due to noise, deafness and metabolic disorders, deafness and vascular disease, sudden deafness, Cupulocanalolitiasi, vestibular Neuronite. The teaching of Audiology V provides as main topic the Cochlear Implant. It first describes the system, its components and its operation; then analyzes the indications, contraindications, and the selection procedure for patients candidates to the Plant; explains some signs of surgical technique; treat, then, the procedures verifiva / adjustment electrophysiological Plant; the lessons end with elements of speech therapy rehabilitation of patients with Cochlear Implant. The Life Sciences Applied Medical plan to deepen the technical aspects of hearing aid, through measurements of the electroacoustic characteristics and in situ assessments. We also address the fundamentals of compression, directionality and noise management. We conclude with the lessons prescriptive fitting methods.

The last minutes of class are reserved for questions of clarification from the students. It provides for the discussion of clinical cases emblematic. Laboratory exercises in the electroacoustic characteristics occur through electronic ear and analysis of digital hearing aids.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam. The verification takes place during the appeals provided for by the teaching calendar, by oral question, the presence of the Committee of the Faculty of Integrated Course of Hearing V. The student must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the basic elements of the main non-inflammatory disorders of the auditory and especially having the knowledge and understanding to formulate a precise plan instrumental diagnostic audiology. The student must also be able to demonstrate knowledge on the plant Cochlear, audiological indications on the Plant, the process of selection of candidates and patients about their hearing results. The student ultimately must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the indications for hearing aid and technical aspects most appropriate in different clinical deafness.
