Learning objectives
The purpose of the course is to provide basic knowledge of the mechanisms underlying tissue response to injury (inflammation, haemostasis, repair), tumors and diabetes mellitus.
Prerequisites
Bases of biology, anatomy, biochemistry and physiology are required.
Course unit content
Physiopathology of blood and hemostasis. Blood. Hematopoiesis. Anemias
Acute inflammation.
General features of inflammation. Vascular changes. Leukocyte extravasation and phagocytosis. Chemical mediators of inflammation. Systemic effects of inflammation: fever. Outcomes of acute inflammation.
Chronic inflammation.
Tissue regeneration and repair. Cutaneous wound healing.
Tumors.
Classification. Benign and malignant tumors. Tumor etiology. Invasivity and metastasis. Pathogenesis of neoplastic diseases. Life style and tumor.
Diabetes Mellitus: pathogenesis and complications of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes mellitus.
