Course units and programme of study

The list of course units in the programme of study represents the set of training activities that can be envisaged for each of the years of which the course of study consists and changes according to the year in which the student enrols. Free or restricted-choice' course units are optional learning activities that students may include in their programme of study according to the choice criteria specified on this page; the remaining course units are compulsory for all students.

The programme of study must be submitted online by the student for each year using the ESSE3 system (see dedicated section).

Students are allowed to submit their own programme of study with options other than those presented on this page (and available in ESSE3), as long as it is consistent with achieving the course's educational objectives. In that case, the programme must be submitted to the Course Council for approval.

The programme has a duration of two years subdivided into four semesters, each composed of a first and a second module (semester partition).

Approximately, students have to take 30 credits per semester, although some changes can be made possible in response to the needs of the programme or of single students.

Units can be spread on a whole semester to obtain twelve credits or on one module for six credits.

Students can enroll on the course both as full-time or part-time students.

Instead of lasting two years before graduation, the duration of the part-time programme is up to fours years. The study plan changes accordingly, but not the subjects and learning activites to take.

In case of double degree programmes or other international programmes such as Erasmus+ or Overworld, a part of the units can be subtistuted with others at a partner university aborad or they can be added.

Specific operating instructions for the degree course
A.A. 2024-25

First-year students may decide (free choice) to anticipate ECTS credits scheduled for the second year of the course.

The choice of free ECTS credits may be made among the courses offered by one's own course or among those offered by other three-year and/or master's degree courses at the university in the current academic year, provided that no courses already taken in the three-year course or duplications of courses already taken are selected.

Second-year students are allowed to include in their programme of study up to 12 ECTS credits in addition to the minimums laid down in the curriculum: these examinations, once included, become part of the student's plan for all purposes and must necessarily be taken before graduating.
