Learning objectives

The course aims to allow students to learn and understand the basic instruments and the methods to concretely elaborate and use the principal concepts of hygiene, occupational health and clinical pathology to prevent communicable and non-communicable diseases , health-related diseases and to evaluate their own professional activities from a legal and normative perspective.
In addition, the student, applying the acquired knowledge and understanding, should be able to –alone and in collaboration with other health professionals to:
-Contribute to prevent infective complications of patients health facilities are in charge of;
-Avoid physical risks related to professional activities;
-Interpret basic laboratory analysis to correctly assess radiologic exams that require contrast agent;
-Align his behaviors to the norms of professional deontology

Prerequisites

Course unit content

The course is divided into 4 modules and a seminar focused mainly on training on safety and health protection in the healthcare workplace and the legal aspects of the profession of technician in medical radiology.
The General Hygiene module provides basic content on epidemiology and general and specific prevention of communicable and non-communicable diseases. In particular, being addressed to health professionals, it addresses the issues of prevention measures to be taken in the hospital and healthcare facilities related to biological risk.
The module of Occupational Medicine is a specific study of the aspects related to safety, health and protection in the workplace in light of current legislation. It analyses occupational diseases, their specific prevention and health risks.
The Occupational Medicine Seminar further explores the prevention of occupational risks in the health environment.
The Clinical Pathology module addresses the general themes of this discipline starting from the biological specimens for analysis to the main laboratory tests and their clinical interpretation.
The Module of Forensic Medicine provides the basics of criminal law and analyzes the main crimes related to health activity and the legal aspects associated with the exercise of the profession.

Teaching methods

The lessons will take place with frontal mode in presence; the explanations of the teacher will be supported by the projection of slides suitably prepared that will also be provided to students as teaching material for study deposited on the specific platform for access reserved for students (Elly).
During the lessons students will be directly involved in interactive teaching methods with the presentation of case studies and discussions of problems to verify the degree of understanding of the concepts illustrated.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment of the achievement of the objectives of the course includes a final oral examination.
The questions concern the topics covered in order to ascertain the knowledge and ability to understand and process the content acquired by the student.
The final grade is based on the overall assessment of the teachers of the integrated course.
