Learning objectives

At the end of the course the student is expected to:

- know the various types of ADAS and their technologies;
- know the parts that compose an AD system;
- have acquired field experience on the interaction between the various components of an AD system and is able to develop a small part and make it interact with the others.

Course unit content

The course goal is to to present the components that form an autonomous driving system and the various technologies that are used within ADAS. During the course there will be space to mention various less technical aspects of autonomous driving, but there will also be the possibility of experimenting in the laboratory directly on the development of a part of an autonomous driving vehicle.

Full programme

Brief history of autonomous vehicles
Levels of autonomy
Differences between ADAS and AD
Basics of Functional Safety
Components of an autonomous vehicle. Ethical issues and social impact
Notes on legislation

Bibliography

There are no reference texts.

Teaching methods

Lectures and laboratory.

Assessment methods and criteria

The verification of learning will consist of a written test on the topics of the lessons and a presentation of the laboratory work.
The evaluation will be the arithmetic average of the evaluations of the two tests.
