Course unit structured in the following modules:

Learning objectives

-The knowledge of the mechanisms by which the human organism obtains and maintains the homeostasis at level of cell and tissue, the mechanisms of transport and communication and the basal metabolism.
-The knowledge of the functional mechanisms of the human body organs, the knowledge of their dynamic integration in apparatuses and the general mechanisms of functional control in normal conditions and in particular pathological conditions.
-The knowledge of the biological samples their variability, preservation and viability.

Prerequisites

It is recommendable that the student is acquainted of the main concepts of Biology, Anatomy, Chemistry and Biochemistry.

Course unit content

The course focuses on the mechanisms underlying the general functions of the cells as transports, electrical and chemical communication, mechanical activity, metabolism, the functions of the main apparatus of the body as cardiovascular, pulmonary, renal and endocrine.
The metabolism of the body will be studied with the aim of identifying the main molecular markers commonly employed in the clinical laboratory tests. There will be carried out the characterization of the different biological samples, their possible adulteration and the methods for their preservation.
