Learning objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING - APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The course contributes to the formation of the engineer student, developing his scientific and technical skills in the field of planning practices and techniques.
The student will acquire sufficient knowledge to allow him to understand, judge, analyze and draft main relevant planning tools at the urban and regional scale with special attention to the relations between sustainability tasks and spatial planning.
MAKING JUDGEMENTS - COMMUNICATION SKILL – LEARNING SKILLS
The information obtained will allow the student to develop specific communication skills and further learning on the issues of land use and environmental planning.

MAIN DEFINITIONS
Urban and territorial transformations in our country from the post-unification era to today.
Birth of urban planning and territorial planning.
Planning parameters and terminology.
Evolution of territorial cartography. Archiving of territorial data. Introduction to GIS methodologies. Collection and processing of data by geo-portals.
Planning and sustainability: general concepts and tasks.
ELEMENTS OF NATIONAL AND REGIONAL LEGISLATION REGARDING PLANNING
Main national planning legislation.
Territorial planning tools at a regional and provincial level with particular reference to Emilia Romagna and Lombardy.
Planning tools in the environmental and landscape fields.
Urban and territorial standards. The evolution of the concept of territorial endowment.
Concept of land consumption: data on the phenomenon, regulatory and planning tools, state of the debate.
ELEMENTS OF LANDSCAPE AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION
Landscape planning. Landscape protection measures and contents in regional scale plans. Case studies (Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, Puglia)
Legislation and environmental planning tools, with particular reference to river basins and river areas. Water resources and sustainability objectives.
Parks, Reserves, Protected Areas: from the nineteenth-century planning of urban greenery to current community, national and regional regulations.
Concept of Ecological Network and Green Infrastructure.
Concept of sustainability applied to territorial disciplines: the 17 UN Goals and the annual results verification reports.
