Integrated course unit module: INTRODUCTION TO THE PHYSICS OF MATTER

Learning objectives

The aim of these lectures is to know the basics of Solid State Physics and to learn how to apply some concepts, learned in previous courses, to the structure of Matter

Course unit content

In these lectures some basic concepts of Solid State Physics are considered. Starting from the study of the crystal structure, the concepts of direct and reciprocal lattice are introduced. Then the problems related to the presence in the material of lattice defects are analyzed. Then the vibrational properties in connection with the thermal ones, the electrical, dielectric and magnetic properties are taken into account. The final part of the course will be devoted to nanostructures, to the phenomenology of superconducting materials and of biological matter.
