Learning objectives

Understanding the characteristics, methods of breeding and training of the horse for racing.
Know how to conduct the races and the legislation.
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to:
recognize the main races of interest
sport (1st indicator in Dublin), apply theoretical knowledge
through the solution of specific problems (2nd Dublin indicator);
demonstrate autonomy of judgment (3rd indicator of Dublin) in the
application of knowledge; acquire a good property of language (4th indicator of Dublin),
also linked to the discussion that the teacher solicits during the course
frontal lessons; to increase the ability to learn in the student,
through the discussion, (5th indicator of Dublin) so
to have know-how that can be spent in professional practice.

The history of trot and gallop races.
History of the Thoroughbred and Standardbred.
The races and the regulations.
Overview of gallop and trot biomechanics.
Thoroughbred and Standardbred breeding.
Harnesses and equipment. Preparation and dressing of the Thoroughbred and Standardbred.
Notes on training methods.
Characteristics of the racetracks

Teaching methods

Lectures and educational visits.
The discussion during the lessons will provide to the
students the ability to independently face the final evaluation and
the other types of problems that can be presented in the future
professional activities. The teaching material used during the lessons
is provided on the Elly-Veterinary platform at the beginning of the course
(any changes during construction will be reported
promptly). The slides are considered an integral part of the
educational material and lesson notes

Assessment methods and criteria

Written test. multiple choice test in 45 minutes.
No ongoing verification activities are planned. In this
location, in addition to knowledge of the topics in the program (1st and
2nd indicator of Dublin), the student will have to demonstrate, through the
carrying out and solving specific problems, to have acquired good
reasoning and exposure skills (3rd, 4th and 5th indicator of
Dublin).
For students diagnosed with specific learning disorders
(DSA), certificates pursuant to Law 170/2010, are provided for
support mode
