Course unit content
The course deals with epidemiological methodology as a fundamental tool for Public Health. In particular, it will deal with frequency measures and risk measures, and the main epidemiological studies.

GENERAL CONCEPTS OF HYGIENE AND PUBLIC HEALTH
• Definition of health
• Primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary prevention.
• Health organization in Italy: the National Health Service at central, regional and local levels.
• Health education and health promotion
The National Prevention Plan and the LEA "Collective Prevention and Public Health": activities and services aimed at protecting the health and safety of the community from infectious and environmental risks, linked to working conditions, related to lifestyles, with particular reference at the intervention level.
2. EPIDEMIOLOGICAL METHODOLOGY
• Definition of epidemiology and its applications
• Sources of epidemiological data
• Descriptive epidemiological measures.
Epidemiological measures of risk.
• Main types of epidemiological study (descriptive, transversal, case-control, cohort and experimental)

Teaching methods

Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment of the achievement of the objectives will be carried out by means of a writtem exam, wich will consists of multiple choice questions on topics from the entire integrated course.
