Empirical research in education: scientific knowledge and educational research.
Identify, locate, evaluate, and effectively use information.
The ontological, epistemological and methodological choices of the researcher.
Educational research strategies.
Research design in Education.
From the theoretical framework to the operational definition.
Variables and measurement.
Research methods and instruments.
Sample and reference population.
Administer, collect and analyze (quantitative and qualitative) data.

Full programme

The course aims to offer an overview of the issues that cross the field of educational research showing the direct and indirect links with the experience of those who work in socio-educational contexts as an educational professional.

Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. Supporting material will be available on the specific, student-reserved platform (Elly) and may include one or more of the following resources: slide presentations, audio-video aids or video-recording of the lectures.

Assessment methods and criteria

A structured written test on the contents of the course (mandatory texts).
In addition to the exam, a summary paper on one or more of the free choice texts indicated must be presented according to the procedures that will be specified in class, and in any case no later than the day of the written test. The methods of elaboration of this summary will be exposed during the first lessons in the course and reported on the Elly page of the course.
