Learning objectives

At the end of the course the student is expected to be able to:
-understand the general principles of sampling and the different techniques for performing environmental sampling;
-know the main analysis techniques used for the determination of environmental pollutants.

Prerequisites

Students need the knowledge gained from the course Fundamentals of Chemistry and the basic knowledge of Organic Chemistry and Physics are required.

Course unit content

By attending this course, students will learn the basic concepts of the main techniques of sampling and analysis of pollutants; they will learn to evaluate which sampling technique and what type of analysis is more appropriate to apply depending on the type of pollutant to be determined.

Teaching methods

The lessons will take place in presence, in compliance with safety standards, unless further provisions due to the possible continuation of the health emergency.
The teaching material will be deposited on the Teams or Elly platform with access reserved for students and will include iconographic presentations, material provided in class and/or video recording of the lessons.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment of the learning is carried out through a final examination, to verify how much the student has learned in relation to the contents of all three modules of the integrated course.
Upon online registration and completion of the OPIS, the student must:
a) prepare a 3-page report on a chemical risk present in a defined working context (to be delivered at least 7 working days before the date of the appeal to the teachers of the integrated course);
b) take an oral exam (in presence or on Teams depending on the pandemic situation) that involves the discussion of the report and questions on topics covered in class.
The student will have to demonstrate that he has understood, and be able to apply, the concepts
of every subject dealt with.
The overall assessment, in thirtieth, is communicated immediately to the student.
Students with DSA/BSE must contact the University Reception and Inclusion Centre in advance (cai@unipr.it).
