Learning objectives

The student has to acquire useful knowledge of surgical diseases in order to perform a differential diagnosis between the various disorders and know about surgical therapies.

Prerequisites

The student have to achived before the following exams : Human Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Biochemistry, Semiotics and Clinical Methodology, Microbiology, Digestive and Endocrine Diseases, Pharmacology. The attendance to Lecture-style Lessons and the Professionalizing Teaching in General Surgery is mandatory.

Course unit content

Basic surgical knowledge of general surgery.

Hernias (incisional hernias included).
Functional disorders of teh upper gastrointestinal tract.
Surgical complications of peptic disease.
Tumors of the upper gastrointestinal tract.
Tumors of the lower gastrointestinal tract.
Diverticular disease of the colon and its complications.
Inflammatory bowel diseases from a surgical viewpoint.
Anorectun and pelvic floor disease.
Intestinal stomas.
Biliary lithiasis.
Acute and chronic pancreatitis.
Hepato bilio pancreatic tumors.
Endocrine and metabolic surgery.
Tumors of the breast.

Teaching methods

Teaching: Lecture-style Lessons, tutorials in department, in ambulatory and in the operating room with possibility o live visualization in classroom.
Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented
The course will be held through lectures to Students either in the classroom (“in presenza”) or in synchronous-streaming (“in telepresenza”) on the Teams platform. Therefore, the opportunity of Student/Teacher interaction will be preserved both face to face and remotely, by the simultaneous use of the Teams platform.
Lectures will be supported by slide presentations, which will be available to students on the Elly platform (https://elly.medicina.unipr.it).

Assessment methods and criteria

The attendance to Lecture-style Lessons and the Professionalizing Teaching in General Surgery is mandatory.

Oral examination.
In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:
remote oral questions, through the Teams platform (guide http://selma.unipr.it/).
