Integrated course unit module: Neurological Sciences

Learning objectives

1 Knowledge and understanding
The student must demonstrate that he has acquired the advanced knowledge and basic methodological tools necessary for the analysis of the functional properties of neurons and the higher functions of the nervous system.

2 The student must be able to interpret and understand the possible implications of the knowledge acquired in the clinical field.

3 Autonomy of judgment
The student must develop autonomous skills in understanding the functional integrations between the different components of the central nervous system.

4 Communication skills
The student must have a technical language to clearly and unambiguously expose their knowledge of the subject

Prerequisites

Knowledge of physics, chemistry/biochemistry, histology, neuroanatomy

Course unit content

This teaching contributes to provide students with an integrated view of the functions, structures and plasticity of the brain. In particular, the course is focused on the relevant topics of Neurophysiology and aims to stimulate a thorough knowledge of the circuits controlling movements and neural structures responsible for sensory perception. The course will also present the different forms of cognitive functions and how they are satisfied by neural circuits.

Teaching methods

The lectures will be held in presence in compliance with prevention and safety protocols, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. The auxiliary teaching material will be available to students on the Elly platform

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam will be written. Before the examination, students with DSA/BSE must contact the inclusion centre for students with disabilities, D.S.A., B.E.S. (https:///cai.unipr.it/it/student-con-dsa-e-con-bes/42/)
