Integrated course unit module: URBAN PLANNING STUDIO FOR THE SUSTAINABLE CITY

Learning objectives

The course aims to provide students with a knowledge inherent the design techniques in the field of landscape architecture, to direct him / her towards the construction of a critical observation of the theme, in order to constitute a cognitive framework able to carry out increasingly complex exercises during the laboratory
This learning operation is carried out through the students' understanding of the international culture, through knowledge and exemples for the understanding of the contemporary.

Course unit content

The aim of the course is to structure the interpretation and the understanding of Landscape Architecture at different scales, in a strong bond between the analytical and the design phase. iThe class is deeply connected with the urban planning courses.

The main lessons will cover:
• What is "Landscape";
• Main methodologies for reading and interpreting the landscape at various scales;
• Ecological netwotks;
• The design of open spaces in the urban context;
• Urban comfort;

Assessment methods and criteria

In the first part of the course each student will face the critical reading of a text in the bibliography, knowledge of which will be verified. Throughout the course, individual or group exercises will be assigned which will be gradually verified. At the end of the course, each working group will develop a specific project on an open space, which will flow into the boards common to the other courses.
