Learning objectives
The objective of this course is to:
Analyse the process through which children, within the different institutional systems in which they participate, experience and reinterpret the culture they produce, relating it to that established by the adult cultural system, through the key concepts of agency and interpretive reproduction.
To deepen the active role of children in processes of socialisation and cultural construction, highlighting the dynamics of interaction between childhood and the social context.
To provide students with adequate sociological tools to design and implement interventions aimed at promoting children's agency in educational contexts.
To stimulate critical reflection on the educational and social implications of these processes, with particular attention to the impact of school, family and media institutions on the construction of childhood identity.

Course unit content
During this course, topics and perspectives inspired by William A. Corsaro's sociological approach are explored, offering analytical tools from the sociology of childhood. The focus of the lectures is on the contemporary rethinking of the socialisation process, with an emphasis on the question of child agency. In this context, the issue of childhood obesity is also analysed, as an outcome of social, educational and cultural dynamics that influence children's eating practices and lifestyles, highlighting their active role in their daily experiences.
