Learning objectives

The main objective of the course is the acquisition of conceptual and scientific tools to understand the human diseases and the defense mechanisms. In addition, the student will acquire knowledge of the laboratory tests necessary for carrying out the profession.
The understanding of these topics, integrated with those of the other basic teachings, will akllow the student to have to better understand the clinical subjects of the following years and to have a solid basis for the understanding of the diseases in the dental field.

Prerequisites

The student requires sufficient knowledge of histology/cytology, anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology.

Course unit content

At the end of the course the student will be able to:
1. Know the main causes and pathogenetic mechanisms of the diseases.
2. know the activity of the innate and adaptive immune system and its dysregulations.
3. know the laboratory tests necessary and useful for carrying out the profession.

The teaching material used during the lessons (i.e., power point slides) is an integral part of the reference bibliography; all the material will be available on the Elly website, on the course page.

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons will be carried out with the help of slides in .ppt prepared by the teacher. The lessons will be open to broad discussion with the participation of the students. The slides are made available to students on the Elly portal

Assessment methods and criteria

The verification of the learning outcomes will be done through an oral exam, during which the student will be asked questions on the subjects of General Pathology, Immunology and Clinical Pathology. The exam will be considered positive only if the student will be able to answer all the questions satisfactorily, demonstrating in-depth knowledge and adequate understanding skills. The evaluation will be expressed on a scale of 0-30, with 18 corresponding to the minimum mark to pass the exam. The final mark will be represented by the average of the evaluation of the three different teachers who make up the Examination Committee
