Integrated course unit module: MICROBIOLOGY AND HYGIENE

Learning objectives

Students will know and understand epidemiological methods for assessing health phenomena and health needs.
The Students will be able to apply epidemiological skills in reading and interpreting scientific articles. They will acquire an autonomy of judgment and learning related to the topics covered and specific communication skills.

None.

Course unit content

Basic concepts of epidemiology as fundamental tools for identifying public health problems, planning and evaluating public health interventions.

Full programme

Definition, scope and use of epidemiology.
The sources of the epidemiological data.
Descriptive epidemiological measures.
Epidemiological measures of risk.
Ecological studies, cross-sectional studies, case-control studies, cohort studies, experimental studies.
Epidemiological study design.
Bias in Epidemiology.
The management of an epidemic.

Teaching methods

The course will be held through lectures to Students in synchronous-streaming (“in telepresenza”) on the Teams platform. Therefore, the opportunity of Student-Teacher interaction will be preserved.
Lectures will be supported by slide presentations, which will be available to students on the Elly platform (https://elly.medicina.unipr.it).

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam, with questions dealing with all the programme, aimed at verifying the achievement of the objectives of the course.
In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:
remote oral questions, through the Teams platform (guide http://selma.unipr.it/).
