Learning objectives
The Course of Clinical Pathology is part of the Integrated Course of
Elements of Clinical Pathology and First Aid.
The course aims to enable the student to know and understand the main
laboratory tests, in order to achieve the ability to use the knowledge and
understanding gained in identifying the patient's problems related to the
work activity.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of biology, cytology, histology and genetics is required to understand the topics covered in the course.
Course unit content
The first lessons cover general topics regard to biological materials and
preparation of the patient.
The second part of the course covers the main laboratory tests in relation
to the work activity.

Introduction to laboratory medicine. Laboratory haematology.The laboratory in renal failure. The liver disease laboratory.
The laboratory in cardiovascular diseases. Carbohydrate metabolism. Laboratory principles in immunology. Tumour markers.

Teaching methods
Frontal lessons. During the lessons will discuss the issues related to
laboratory tests and their interpretation.
Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment of the achievement of the objectives of the course will be virified through an oral examination.
At the oral examination by
questions regarding the contents of the course will be verified
whether the student has achieved the goal of knowledge and
understanding of the content and if it is able to apply the knowledge
gained in an occupational context.
