Learning objectives
The course aims to deepen the knowledge of the anatomy of the oral cavity and and understanding of the pathophysiology of the stomatognathic system in order to develop in students a critical skill on the topics covered, and therefore use the knowledge and understanding of the diagnostic and therapeutic methods orthodontic that may be useful to the professional activity of orthodontics.

Course unit content
Provide knowledge of occlusion and dental, masticatory function and pathophysiology of the stomatognathic system with special reference to the development of the dentition and occlusion decay. To understand the etilogia of malocclusions with the classification of dento-maxillo-facial disharmonies. To accustom students to evaluate the action of the neuro-muscular system of the skull and dental occlusion recognize the special pathology orthodontics: dental agenesis, supernumerary teeth and impacted teeth. Able to assess the radiological examination of the skull and be able to perform plotting anatomical structures of the skull on lateral cephalograms.Particular importance is given to the patient orthodontic psychological approach to professional ethics and relationships with colleagues.

Stomatognathic system. Growth of the facial skull. Development of the dentition, orthodontic terminology. Dental occlusion: relationships static and dynamic relationships. Occlusion and posture. Centric relation and centric occlusion. Orthodontics and cervical-cranial-mandibular dysfunction. Classification of dento-maxillo-facial disharmonies. Psychological approach to orthodontic patient and professional ethics. Before orthodontic visit. Semiotics orthodontic. Laboratory Tests: prints and patterns, photographs, X-ray examinations . Cephalometric analysis.

Teaching methods
Class lessons: the program themes will be discussed with the aid of slides. The proposed topics will be the subject of collective discussion and study on the basis of ideas and any questions raised during the lessons themselves. Some lessons may be held by the web platform Teams due to the pandemic covid-19 situation
Assessment methods and criteria
The achievement of the goals of the course is verified by an oral exam.
Answering questions about the contents of the course, the student will demonstrate whether he/she has achieved the goals of knowledge and understanding of the contents
