Learning objectives

The course aims to: 1) foster awareness of epistemological beliefs; 2) introduce the historical, epistemological and methodological bases that define the area of empirical research in education, 3) improve the ability to read critically empirical research articles and evaluate their possible use for decision making; 4) develop skills in designing educational empirical researches.

Teaching methods

Educational activities will be conducted focusing on active learning methods (interactive lectures, case studies, simulations) with a continuous enhancement of direct experiences of the participants and interactions between individuals in learning. The classroom activities will be supported by the use of authentic materials and presentations on computer.

Assessment methods and criteria

1) A structured written test (with an explicit evaluation scale and communicated in advance with respect to the administration of the test).
The test will estimate the achievement of the expected results outlined above in the training objectives section. The test passed with a score equal to or above 18/30 will be considered.

AND

2) A Project work (individually or in groups of up to 3 persons), delivered by e-mail to the teacher. Voting scale 0-30.
The Project work involves the elaboration of an empirical research project
In the educational-formative field.
The design context is freely chosen by the candidate, provided it is in compliance with the criteria illustrated in the course, in the slides and in the reference manuals.
