Learning objectives

The course aims to provide students with the first tools to start reading a territorial reality and understand their needs. In particular, it wishes to develop autonomy of judgment and ability to analyze territorial issues at different scales, from the local to the European scale.

Course unit content

Teaching aims to introduce the student to the fundamental concepts of economic geography in European optics. The first part of the course will cover topics of a general nature designed to frame the discipline and its methodologies. The themes such as the economic region, the concept of distance, transcalarity, the center - periphery paradigm, the territorial organization etc. will be discussed.
The second part of the course, however, is aimed at analyzing the European geopolitical situation. After a brief introduction to the history of the European Union, some issues related to European strategies and policies will be highlighted, highlighting the impact on the educational dimension for each topic. In particular, we will focus on the architecture of governance and the Lisbon Strategy, now Europe 2020. The study of the proposed themes will be carried out using the methodologies and concepts learned in the first part of the course.

Evaluation levels:
_massimo (the answers are perfect: correct and complete, effective and accurate, based on full mastery of the language);
_all (the answers are exhaustive but not perfect; they are correct and complete but the presentation and the language are not very effective and accurate);
Medium (the responses are sufficient but not complete and there are some errors);
Low / Low (responses are unsatisfactory: severely incomplete and with several relevant errors).
