Integrated course unit module: BASICS OF CLINICAL PATHOLOGY AND FIRST AID

Learning objectives

The Course of Respiratory Diseases is part of the Integrated Course of Elements of Clinical Pathology and First Aid. The course aims to enable the student to know pathological bases of most frequent respiratory diseases and to define their clinical features. In particular, we want to focus on enviromental and working diseases and to alert the prevention specialist to the risk of working activity in rural, industrial and domestic location.

Course unit content

The course wants to identify the most frequent pulmonary diseases and to define their clinical features. We will pay particular attention to environmental and occupational diseases. Our understanding of these chest diseases will advance on two front: the first by improving clinical and pathogenetic knowledges, the second by the improvement of our understanding of occupational and environmental factors causing lung changes. In particular, we will study Respiratory Anatomy and Physiology, Acute and Chronical Diseases (Asthma,COPD,Emphysema), Interstitial Lung Diseases/Enviromental and Occupational Lung Diseases, Respiratory and Pulmonary Infections, Lung Cancer, Disorders of the Pleura.

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons. During the lessons we will discuss the issues related to Respiratory diseases. We will focus on Enviromental and Occupational Lung Diseases.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment of the achievement of the objectives of the course will include in-course multiple choice tests. At the oral exam will be determined whether the student has achieved the goal of knowledge and understanding of the content and if it is able to apply the knowledge gained.
