Course unit content
The first part of the course is devoted to the knowledge of the basic concepts of epidemiology and general prevention of infectious diseases and chronic - degenerative diseases with particular reference to current issues of Public Health.
The second part of the course has as its object of study the relationship between the health of the community and the environment considered in its main matrices
Full programme
General epidemiology of infectious diseases:
host-parasite relationships, sources and reservoirs of infection
mode of transmission
mode of appearance of infections in the population
Prophylaxis or general types and levels of preventive
notification, quarantine measures
diagnostic tests
sterilization, disinfection,
vaccine prophylaxis, types of vaccines, strategies and vaccination schedules
passive immunoprophylaxis and chemoprophylaxis.
Epidemiology and prevention of non-infectious diseases of social importance.
Health or environmental contaminants physical, chemical and biological, and their toxicological aspects.
Water hygiene: Criteria physical, chemical and microbiological water purification treatments.
Wastewater treatment biological systems
Solid waste: treatment and disposal systems
atmospheric pollutions: the main pollutants and their effect on human health.

Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment of the objectives involves a test articulated in multiple quizzes .Il test is considered sufficient if the student responds correctly to 60% of questions. The final grade is assessed by the weighted average with the vote of the other courses
